My story

Hi, I'm Christopher and thanks for stopping by! After finishing my PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology, I spent the next 8 years doing cancer research and working as a scientific editor. A few years ago I decided to combine my love of science with my passion for baking and open up a small online bakery. I've found that baking is the perfect combination of all of my skills and interests, and also reminds me of the time spent baking with my grandmother in her kitchen. Needless to say, I am passionate about creating high-quality baked goods using high-quality ingredients to create memorable and delicious culinary experiences. 

I am a southerner who grew up in Brunswick, Georgia, and I come from a family who believes that the kitchen is the heart of the home. Both my paternal and maternal grandparents and great-grandparents took pride in creating delicious treats steeped in southern traditions. I have taken up the mantle of my family and have been infusing my own personal spin on family recipes that have been refined over time.

If you’re asking why I chose the name “The Cocoa Cake Shop”, it’s because cocoa reflects who I am and is an integral part of so many cake recipes. Plus, cake represents such a gathering point for so many occasions. For me, the most satisfying part of baking is sharing it with friends, family, and clients so I can see the individual reactions to what I make, and experience the joy that the simple act of feeding someone brings. Through my baking I have been able to meet a wide variety of people in all walks of life and now, I cannot wait to meet you.
